It can happen that we win the jackpot on skyscanner and buy a flight ticket to our dream destination at a ridiculously low price. Or many of us know the feeling as a result of a ’one-minute long’ crazy idea we stand desperately in front of the mirror holding our flight tickets and trying to find out how we will pay all of the other expenses of our dream holiday.
Although this also happened to me before, no matter how much money I have, I always google before my travels „free things to do”. As living in Bali for 5 months now (still unbelievable) we made our own free list.
1. Watch the sunset on Seminyak beach
It is always good to see how locals, tourists and even dogs enjoy the sunset every day. If you prefer Uluwatu beaches, sunsets are breathtaking from there, too.
2. Campuhan ridge walk
You only need comfy shoes and a bottle of water to be prepared for a 2-3 hours long walk.
3. Get wet at Bali’s stunning waterfalls
There are plenty of natural waterfalls on the island which we can visit easily and be amazed by their height, power and untouched beauty. Entrance fees at waterfalls vary between 5-20.000 IDR.
Location of our favourite Sekumpul waterfall: Tejakula, Lemukih, Sawan, Lemukih, Sawan, Kabupaten Buleleng, Bali 81171, Indonesia
4. Climb down to Nyang Nyang beach (Pantai Nunggalan)
Have a walk on the 1.5 km long coast, take a bath in the ocean, find the 2 shipwrecks and enjoy the coastline view without other tourists.
5. Rent a motorbike for 3 dollars/day
(almost for free) and spend hours with riding the roads of Bali outside the popular tourist areas. Enjoy freedom! (and take care in the traffic)
Location: anywhere in Bali
6. Go snorkeling to Blue Lagoon
7. Visit Bali’s night markets
Even if you do not buy a thing, night markets are good opportunities to feel the spirit of Balinese people.
You can check the 5 best Bali night markets here.
8. Observe art in Ubud
You can walk on the streets (and again, take care in the traffic) and around shops people are actually doing wood carwing, leather carving or making paintings.
Location: through Jalan Raya Tegallalang
9. Watch the sunrise on White sand beach
– and leave before opening time to keep this adventure for free 🙂
10. Check the calendar for festivals and ceremonies
Balinese national holidays and ceremonies are luckily frequent and spectacular. You just need to go out on the streets of villages and around temples so you can watch locals wearing beautiful dresses, celebrating, praying and giving offerings to the gods.
11. Do yoga on the beach
If you ask people living nearby you can participate on free yoga lessons or you can always do it on your own.
Location: anywhere on Bali beaches
12. Watch surfers rocking on waves on Bingin beach
