The first stop of our Bali roundtrip challenge was Menjangan area. We were looking for a place to stay related to locals and preferable out of the crowded areas.
White Sandy Beach Menjangan is a lovely beachfront accommodation located in Banyuwedang, North Bali. Bali Barat National Park is only about a 10-minute drive from here. The area of Menjangan Island has worldwide famous diving and snorkeling sites. It is a paradise for those who love these water activities.
White Sandy Beach Menjangan is managed by local community called Pokmasta. We were happy about hearing that not only rich westerner investors build huge hotel complexes and resorts on the island, but also local people take effort to create a place to stay for a fair price. It is another good opportunity for travellers to support locals and get a calm and relaxing stay in the middle of nature in exchange.
The final 500 metres before reaching our destination was pretty hard to manage by motorbike as the roads were quite undeveloped. But after arriving to the reception, we had a lovely view to the bungalow area and the restaurant just next to it. The garden was nicely maintained with flowers and other greens. This also made a quiet and natural atmosphere. We had a standard air-conditioned bungalow built from local wooden and materials and designed by local people. Our room was perfectly clean and my favourite was the sea-front terrace with mangrove forest view. We had a king-size bed and a nature concept bathroom which is always a funny experience to use.
Facilities and services
If you visit West Bali for its spectacular diving spots, there is a diving center next to the restaurant just on the beach. They can organise snorkeling and diving tours for you. The staff of White Sandy Beach Menjangan can also help arrange other activities like fishing, kayaking, mangrove tour, bird watching or Ijen crater tour to East Java.
The beach area is also perfect for practicing mediation or for a sunset walk after a dinner at the on-site restaurant. It feels like you are at a peaceful lake surrounded by mangrove forests.
Why do we recommend?
This place is really in harmony with nature. It is quiet and peaceful, a great choice to escape from the crowded south bali. We love the concept that the local community is taking care about the environment, such as cleaning the beach, caring with plastic, and they have a coral reef restoration project as well. They pay much attention of the protection of natural beauty.
